New Homes Builder Honors 13-Year Navy Serviceman
Filed Under California, San Diego |
New homes builder Shea Homes honors Jose F. Valdez among 145 contest entries as a “Mover and Shaker” through a recent washer/dryer giveaway with Armed Services YMCA. A mover and shaker is defined as a person who is active or influential in some field or endeavor.
After reading through 145 contest entries, each explaining his or her decision to join the military, Shea Homes announced the winner.
Jose F. Valdez, a 13-year Navy serviceman who is married with two children, won a GE Profile Harmony Energy Star King-Size Capacity High Efficiency Washer and Gas Dryer with Stainless Steel Drum. The prize from Shea Homes is valued at $2,398. Valdez, who was born in Mexico, immigrated with his parents and six brothers to the United States when he was 21. He says he joined the Navy to be able to thank this country for the gift of citizenship.
Here’s the winning entry from Jose Valdez:
“The day I took the oath of citizenship, I made a promise to myself. I promised to give back to the country that had given me so much, yet asked nothing in return. I knew I wanted to serve our country by joining the military. I am living my version of the American Dream each and every day by putting on my uniform and defending my country. My American Dream has now come full circle as I am soon purchasing my first home in California. I feel honored and privileged to be a citizen and to serve this great nation.”
“Shea Homes is moved every day by a passion to build the highest quality homes and to enhance people’s lives,” said Vanessa Linn, Shea Homes San Diego’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We wanted to acknowledge the moving and shaking that military service members like Jose Valdez do every day to serve and protect our country.”
